Fitness Watches And BlueTooth: What You Need To Know

Fitness Watches And BlueTooth: What You Need To Know

What is there to know about fitness watches and Bluetooth? Do all fitness watches have BlueTooth? If so, are there fitness watches that you can easily disable BlueTooth?

If you’re trying to get into better shape, you need a fitness watch. These watches can help you count your total steps, monitor sleep timings, and track various activities as well. A gyroscope that is capable of sensing your movements & detecting your activities is used for measuring your performance. Certain watches allow you to link your phone and fitness watch via Bluetooth as well.

Although this connectivity might seem convenient, it does have side effects. When your watch’s Bluetooth function is switched on, it starts emitting EMF radiation, which can be bad for your health. EMF can affect fertility rates, promote the growth of tumors and causes other health issues as well.

Fitness Watches, BlueTooth, And Radiation

The link between Bluetooth radiation and health issues haven’t been studied all that much. However, certain independent studies have discovered that there might be a link. For instance, a study discovered that normal insects started experiencing cell death when they were exposed to EMF radiation.

While there are official guidelines in place for regulating Bluetooth radiation levels, that system has its own faults. Since there aren’t many research studies on this topic, the government’s safety standards are questionable. Additionally, we are also hit by Bluetooth radiation on multiple levels from the devices around us. It isn’t just a single device that emits radiation – there are a whole bunch of them around us now.

Does every fitness tracker make use of Bluetooth?

Certain fitness trackers do not utilize Bluetooth. Others allow you to disable this function. If you are looking for fitness trackers without Bluetooth, go for these products –

Garmin Vivosmart HR

This is an affordable fitness tracker that can monitor heart rate levels, count steps and calories consumed. It also includes vibration alerts that keep sending reminders about the need to remain active and an altimeter, which monitors the number of floors that you’ve climbed. It is highly affordable at $80.

You can switch Bluetooth off rather easily in this device. Just activate the touchscreen and open its settings. Navigate to Bluetooth, and then switch it off. Also note that Vivosmart doesn’t have WiFi enabled on it, which is helpful since it doesn’t emit much EMF. However, you will have to enable Bluetooth at regular intervals for allowing your smartwatch to sync up with the official Garmin application.

Samsung Gear Fit Pro 2

This is a smartwatch with tons of features that costs just $130. It is water-resistant for up to fifty meters & comes with GPS tracking, long battery life, step tracker, and heart rate monitor. Additionally, you can also disable its Bluetooth function.

In order to do this, head over to the watch’s Bluetooth settings and disable the option. Similar to the Vivosmart device, you will have to enable WiFi or Bluetooth regularly for syncing data with the application.

Fitness watches are incredibly useful for helping users stay fit. While they are a good concept, they emit EMF radiation, which is a significant downside. However, you can lower your risks by purchasing fitness trackers without Bluetooth or trackers in which Bluetooth can be disabled. We hope that as more information becomes available about the risks of Bluetooth radiation, manufacturers come up with alternatives that block EMF radiation from these devices.
